Hurricane. Daquiri. Sazarec. New Orleans is synonymous with cocktails, bar crawls and good times with much attention being given to the city’s vibrant cocktail scene. However, there are still plenty of great spots where wine lovers can sit back and enjoy a leisurely glass or two of their favorite grape. Here are a few local favorites:
Patrick’s Bar Vin is the perfect place to sip a glass of wine in the French Quarter. Don’t let it’s proximity to Bourbon Street scare you – as soon as you step into their elegant courtyard, Hand Grenades and Huge Ass Beers give way to a delicious selection of wines served in elegant stem glassware etched with the logo. Inside you’ll find dark wood, leather chairs and luxurious velvet sofas, perfect for sitting back with a glass of your favorite Merlot or Rose. Patrick’s is definitely a grown-up bar, but colorful lighting and puppets hanging behind the bar add a funky twist that ensures that you feel right at home with a date or a group of friends. I recommend asking for Patrick’s Best Kept Secret, at $5 a glass for the French varietal of your choice you would be hard-pressed to find a better deal anywhere else in the city.

Swirl is a wine bar in Bayou Saint John next to _______. It is a cozy wine bar and shop hybrid with a great selection of colorful, local art on the walls. The menu lists a dozen or so wines available by the glass or the bottle as well as a variety of cheese and charcuterie. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable so don’t hesitate to ask them to match a wine to your cheese plate or vice versa. If you’re having trouble choosing just one, the wine flight is a great way to sample three different choices for just $15. For an added bonus, buy a bottle of your favorite selection to take home with you. Sit inside at one of the six tables or, if the weather is nice, outside on the sidewalk.
